Helms Truck History Mural Restoration

Art painted this mural in 2004 for the current owners of the Helms Bakery property in Culver City, CA to commemorate the history of the Helms Bakery delivery trucks that delivered fresh baked goods all over Los Angeles County in the first half of the 20th century.

The mural is painted on a large blank wall, except for the actual doorway on the right, and depicts a series of large, sepia-toned historical photographs of Helms Bakery trucks and their drivers floating over the trompe l’oeil painted Art Deco architecture, that is prominent on the surrounding original bakery buildings.

The mural gets a lot of sun and had deteriorated somewhat over the years, and in 2019 the owners commissioned Art to return and restore the mural. Art rejuvenated the original coating, and retouched and restored the painting wherever necessary. He then applied 2 layers of a clear, archival coating that will protect and preserve the mural for many years to come.
