California Heights Mural

This mural marks the entrance, along a major thoroughfare, to the California Heights Historic District in Long Beach. It was sponsored by the local Homeowners' Association and the City of Long Beach. The community wanted to show the positive aspects of living in the neighborhood, and Art has framed these qualities in the context of an old advertising brochure or postcard. Long Beach, being on the Pacific Ocean, has always promoted itself as a resort community.
The homeowners wanted to feature their antique street lamps, the different types of historic houses, that the area once was farmland for lima beans and barley, and that it is a great place to raise your children.
